What types of documentation can Line Scan handle?

All types of document are handled from hand written notes and typewritten records to catalogues, working drawings, ID’s, x-rays and maps. Film and digital archiving is undertaken including microfiche, aperture cards, microfilm and removable media such as CD or DVD.

Line Scan operates with cutting edge scanning hardware and software. Line Scan uses Kodak Scanners and Software which output Tiff, Jpeg, PDF and various other file formats.

Line Scan produce Group IV 200dpi – 400dpi Tiff files that comply with industry standards. Line Scan recommends that detailed images and drawings need to be scanned at 400dpi.

Line Scan always evaluate the files prior to scanning to insure a level of high quality is maintained.

The Kodak paper scanners can scan from A4 to A3 at high speed and files that are in colour or Black and White can be scanned on ‘the fly’. This enables the scanner settings to be toggled between the two inputs. This functionality increases the speed in which Line Scan can produce work.

Kodak paper scanners have an iThresholding capability that enables the scanner to automatically separate the foreground information in an image for instance (text, lines etc) from the background information i.e. the colour of the paper white or non white. This function improves overall scanning productivity and image quality which is very effective for clients that work with a variety of coloured paper.

Kodak paper scanners also have on-the-fly de-skew and auto-cropping features which will eliminate black borders. This function is particularly useful when the client has a range of different sized files from small receipts to A3 drawings as the scanner will automatically detect the size of the image and crop as necessary. This also ensures that files sizes are kept to a minimum.

Line Scan can also scan large format files on Oc’e Large Format Scanners. These scanners ensure reliable and consistent reproductions of wide/large format files. The Oc’e Scanner can scan at speed and is cost effective.

Line Scan saves all scanned files directly to a secure server ready for the indexing process. Therefore no files are cached to an individual work station where it could be lost, damaged or accessed.

Indexing

Line Scan indexes at file level or sub file level and can index as many fields as the client requires but advises to keep these to a minimum as it will have an impact on cost. To ensure the indexing process is carried out accurately and productively Line Scan uses Scan Manager software.

This software has zone in capabilities which enables the operator to zone into specific sections of the scanned image to view the information required for the individual index fields.

This software also has bar-code recognition. This functionality is used to scan client’s documents that are bar-coded and which require that information to be entered into an index field. Scan Manager populates this information automatically into an index field.
